Monthly progress records across four apartment builds

The challenge

Leadership met monthly to review four buildings going up in four different cities. Before each meeting they needed a current picture of every site: a map they could measure from, photographs and video. Each month had to line up with the month before, so the sequence read as progress and could be built into a time lapse.

The sites

Four active apartment builds across Alberta, each changing fast from month to month as excavation gave way to structure and then to envelope. The client is not named here, and neither are the cities.

Equipment and method

RTK photogrammetry on a fixed grid, so every orthomosaic registered to the one before it. Stills taken from the same position at every corner of each building, flown from waypoints saved for each site. Video on the same perimeter pass and orbits every visit.

Airspace and safety

Airspace checked for each of the four sites before every capture, with site coordination for active equipment and crews during each capture window.

Deliverables

Every month, for every site: a live web map with 2D and 3D views, a Google Drive download of the full package, matched corner stills, and perimeter and orbit video.

Result

Two years of monthly records across all four builds. Executives prepared for each meeting from the current maps, and stakeholders checked in between meetings from the same links. Site teams used the latest map for safety planning, site security, material inventory and equipment management.

Because the angles held from month to month, the client built a time lapse for each site and used it to update the project pages on its own website.
