Multi course golf acquisition for simulator and digital twin data

RTK photogrammetry and lidar acquisition across multiple Alberta golf courses, captured to a single specification for digital twin and simulator applications.

The challenge

A data client needed course capture across several properties to one consistent standard. Inconsistent capture between courses is worse than no capture at all for this application, because the downstream product depends on every course behaving the same way in the model.

The site

Multiple Alberta courses, including mountain and foothills properties where terrain and tree cover vary considerably from one hole to the next.

Equipment and method

Per hole automated flights using RTK photogrammetry, with lidar brought in on the terrain heavy and treed courses where a camera cannot reach the ground surface. Capture specification, overlap and positioning method held identical across every property.

Airspace and safety

Varied by property, including terrain constrained mountain sites requiring flight planning around elevation change rather than around obstacles alone.

Deliverables

Orthomosaics and terrain data per course, ground control and RTK positioning data, and raw acquisition handed over for the client's own processing pipeline.

Result

Several courses delivered under one program to one specification, so the data behaves consistently across the client's product. Scheduling and travel were coordinated as a single campaign rather than as separate bookings.
